CUK Ganderbal organises program on eve of World Disability day 2923

Srinagar, December 05 (KIP)-Central University of Kashmir Ganderbal organised world Disability day with children of Zaiba Aapa institute of inclusive education Bijbehara. University officials invited the children and staff of Zaiba Aapa institute Bijbehara running under umbrella of Humanity welfare organization Helpline and got inputs from the staff and students. Adil Rashid vaid general Secretary of Humanity welfare organization Helpline suggested following demands

Central University should create accessibility from gate to the building, accessibility in washrooms, class rooms, building entrance. There should be parking skits for students, visitors and staff with Disabilities so that they can board and deboard vehicles without barriers. The lifts should be in place and ramps of appropriate gradients should be constructed at all entry and exit points

In all notifications there should be mention about students with Disabilities as what relaxations and benifits they can avail.

In all policy documents there should be mention about students with Disabilities.

There should be an enabling unit for students with Disabilities where they can seek help and support to overcome all the challenges they face in and around the university

Many Central University branches like puducherry have been providing complete free services viz no exam fee no tution fee no admission fee, no hostel fee these reinforcements should available for students with Disabilities in central university of Kashmir too

The students with neurological disabilities upper limb disabilities, multiple disabilities , visual disabllities should need scribe or writer in the examinations. The writer facilities should be available from University and guidelines framed by ministry of social justice and empowerment should be followed in letter and spirit. The student should have choice to bring scribe as per her/ his own comfort

College awareness programme should be organised so that students with Disabilities are not ignored by the nondisabled peers and teaching faculty can respect the body differences

Relaxation in marks and extra time as per ugc guidelines should be given to the students with disabilities

Students having visual disabllities or writting issues should be allowed to record class lectures so that they are not left behind

Students with Disabilities should get aids and appliances including laptops.

The library shelves should be accessible for students with dwarfism Disabilities and severe orthopedic Disabilities. Soft books and pdf version of books should be available for the students with blindness.

Help desk and Support system should be available for students with Disabilities in administrative and examination departments

the staff of central university of Kashmir gave a warm welcome and assured University will be disabled friendly and all central and UT acts and guidelines will be implemented without any delays. Later on central university staff signed banner of pledge to safeguard the rights 9f persons with Disabilities and put forward offer of signing a memorandum of association with Humanity Welfare Organization Helpline to maximize the facilities and create sensitisation and awareness regarding disability rights in the university so that 100% inclusion is created
