Srinagar, June 25 (KIP)-J&K Pradesh Congress Committee (JKPCC) on Wednesday accorded a warm welcome to newly appointed AICC General Secretary Incharge J&K Naseer Hussain on his first visit to Kashmir. He was received by JKPCC President Tariq Hameed Karra, AICC General Secretary Ghulam Ahmad Mir and other leaders.

Soon after arriving at Srinagar Airport AICC General Secretary was taken to Congress office in a procession by Congress activists, who had assembled near the Airport to honour him on his first visit as Incharge General Secretary.

Addressing a largely attended gathering of Party workers, All India Congress Committee General Secretary Syed Naser Hussain said that the people of Jammu and Kashmir deserve full statehood and the same rights as other Indian states under the Constitution. He said the Union Government must complete all constitutional formalities to restore full democratic rights to the J&K. “People of Jammu and Kashmir should get full statehood and equal rights like other Indian States. They should have the right to govern themselves as guaranteed under the Constitution of India,” he said.

Congress will intensify its fight for restoration of Statehood to J&K, AICC General Secretary. He said the Government of India should not delay key developmental projects and must treat all citizens equally. “The facilities like roads, tunnels, and rail connections that are available to people in other parts of India should also be given to Jammu and Kashmir,” He also said the ongoing projects being inaugurated by the current government were actually launched during the UPA regime.

All these development projects were started during Congress-led UPA rule. The present government is only completing what UPA Govt began. They don’t have any new projects of their own,” Hussain added. He further said that BJP has imposed undeclared emergency in the country, reiterating Congress Party commitment to safeguard the constitution, which guarantees equal rights to every section of the people living in India.

JKPCC President Tariq Hameed Karra felicitated Naseer Hussain at Party headquarter and congratulated him for his appointment as Incharge General Secretary J&K.

Addressing the largely attended convention of Party workers, JKPCC President Tariq Hameed Karra reiterated Congress Party’s demand for restoration of Statehood to J&K as promised by the Govt at the floor of the house.

He said even after nine months of formation of Govt in J&K, Centre is not in mood to restore statehood, which reflects its intentions and the diversionary tactics. He said Congress Party has launched a movement Hamari Riyasat Hamara Haq across J&K to reiterate its strong urge for restoration of Statehood and other democratic rights, which have been snatched by a stroke of pen, but the Party Congress shall continue to fight for the Statehood to J&K with all constitutional guarantees.

Speaking on the occasion AICC General Secretary Ghulam Ahmad Mir emphasized the Party cadres to rise to the occasion to further strengthen Congress at grass roots, as that, it is the Congress Party alone which represents the urges and aspirations of the people in true sense while having always fought for safeguarding their rights and dignity.

Mir said people of J&K have gone through worse, even the full-fledged princely state was downgraded and divided into two UTs reflecting BJP’s fascist agenda, but the Congress Party stands guarantees to dignity and honour of people, it will continue to fight for the restoration of Statehood and safeguarding people’s rights.

Referring to dual control of J&K by the Centre and the LG Administration, JKPCC Working President Raman Bhalla hit out at BJP Govt for assaulting the basic rights of people even after formation of Govt. It is apparent that Centre neither wants to share power with the elected Govt nor is interested to empower people of J&K for which they voted in the elections, he rued and reiterated Congress Party’s strong urge to ensure justice to people, who have suffered on every count due to the betrayal, lies and deceit on the part of BJP, Bhalla said.
