Global Christian Action Committee Slams Arrest of Catholic Nuns

03/08/2025

Jammu, August 03 (KIP)- Today, the Global Christian Action Committee stands united in denouncing the deeply unjust and alarming arrest of two Catholic Nuns, Preethi Mary and Sister Vandana Francis, in Chhattisgarh. Mr. Lazar Kandayaray, President GCAC, said that the two nuns were taken into custody under false accusations without credible evidence or due process.
“This is not merely an assault on two innocent women of faith, but a clear message of intolerance toward Christian communities — and a direct attack on the principles of religious freedom enshrined in the Indian Constitution.”
“This is not just an assault on two innocent women of faith, but a blatant message of intolerance toward Christian communities,” said a spokesperson for GCAC. “We demand their immediate and unconditional release, and we call upon state and national authorities to ensure justice is upheld.”
We stand in solidarity with the Sisters and the Christian community in Chhattisgarh and call upon civil society, human rights organizations, and the judiciary to ensure that justice prevails. The government must uphold the rights of all citizens, regardless of their faith, and protect those who work tirelessly for the upliftment of society's most vulnerable members.
Mr. Nassir Masih, General Secretary of GCAC, said that this type of incident reflects a disturbing pattern of intimidation against Christian missionaries and minority communities in India. Such actions undermine the constitutional principles of justice, equality, and freedom of faith. We demand an immediate and impartial investigation into the matter and urge the authorities to release the nuns unconditionally if there is no credible evidence against them.
Mr.Asif Gill, District President GCAC, urges the media, civil society organizations, and international human rights bodies to take note of this injustice and join in demanding accountability. We also appeal to the Government of India to take decisive steps to protect the rights and dignity of all religious communities, especially vulnerable minorities.
Those present on the occasion are Mr. Michael Wazir, Pastor Anthony Teji, Pastor Vinod Victor, Pastor Nancy Gill, Pastor Anthony Porus, Legal Advisor Deepender Mukherjee, and Ajay Rana. Thomas Gill, Mr. Wilson Mattoo, and Mr. Dishan Kandayraya
