NIT Srinagar celebrates Hindi Diwas with enthusiasm

Srinagar, September 15 (KIP)-The National Institute of Technology (NIT) Srinagar on Monday celebrated Hindi Diwas to commemorate the historic day when the Constituent Assembly of India adopted Hindi (14th Sep 1949) as the official language of the Union government.
The event was part of the 15-day-long Hindi Pakhwada celebrations organized by the Rajbhasha Cell, which will feature a series of activities running until September 28
The function was graced by several distinguished personalities including Prof. Mohammad Noor Salam Khan, former Head of the Department of Chemical Engineering; Mr. Mubashir Ahmad Wani, Assistant Registrar (Administration); Mr. Mohammad Iqbal Dar, Assistant Registrar (Academics) and Hindi Teaching, training Supervisor of the Rajbhasha Cell; Dr. R.P. Shukla, Incharge Hindi Officer and Assistant Professor, Civil Engineering; and Dr. Sabzar Gani Batoo, Hindi Anuvadak.
Departmental coordinators and ministerial staff from different sections of the Institute also joined the program, making it a vibrant and interactive occasion.
In his message, Director NIT Srinagar, Prof. Binod Kumar Kanaujia extended his greetings to the entire campus community.
“Hindi Diwas reminds us of the responsibility we hold in nurturing our national language. At NIT Srinagar, we are committed to encouraging the use of Hindi in administrative, academic, and research activities," he said.
Prof. Binod further said that promoting Hindi alongside other languages reflects our respect for diversity while strengthening national unity.
Similarly, Institute Registrar, Prof. Atikur Rehman said that language connects people, and Hindi, as our Rajbhasha, symbolizes unity in diversity.
"We at NIT Srinagar fully support initiatives of the Rajbhasha Cell and encourage our staff to adopt Hindi in official communication. Such workshops not only preserve our linguistic heritage but also instill pride among younger generations," he added.
In his keynote address, Prof. Noor Salam Khan delivered an insightful lecture on the importance of Rajbhasha and its continued relevance in the present era.
He said Hindi, being spoken and understood by a vast majority of people across the country, plays a unifying role in bridging cultural and regional diversities.
Prof. Khan further added that promoting Hindi does not diminish the value of other Indian languages but rather strengthens the spirit of inclusivity and collective identity.
Assistant Registrar Academics, Mr. Mohammad Iqbal Dar, who also serves as the Hindi Teaching Supervisor, spoke briefly on the progress of the Rajbhasha Cell at NIT Srinagar.
He stated that the cell regularly organizes orientation programs, workshops, and competitions to enhance awareness and proficiency among staff members.
Dr. R.P. Shukla, Incharge Hindi Officer, extended heartfelt vote of thanks.He expressed gratitude to the resource person, coordinators, participants, and all staff members whose active cooperation made the event successful.
“The essence of celebrating Hindi Diwas lies in collective participation. It is encouraging to see the enthusiasm of our staff and faculty members in embracing the vision of promoting Hindi in administrative and academic domains,” he said.
Dr. Shukla announced that the institute's Rajbhasha Cell is organizing Hindi Pakhwada from September 14th to 29th, 2025. The initiative aims to promote the use of Hindi in official work and foster a deeper appreciation for the language.
Dr. Sabzar Gani Batoo, Hindi Anuvadak, also highlighted the need for professional translation services within institutions to make official documents and circulars more accessible.He emphasized that initiatives like Hindi Diwas serve as reminders to continue these efforts throughout the year.
The program concluded with a pledge by the participants to promote the use of Hindi in their daily official work and to encourage others to recognize its cultural and administrative importance.
Hindi Diwas is observed every year to highlight the significance of the Hindi language in national integration and to promote its wider usage across government offices and institutions.
