IUST Conducts Board of Governors Meeting of DST-i TBI CIED IUST Foundation

Awantipora, September 18 (KIP)- The Islamic University of Science and Technology (IUST) held the second Board of Governors meeting of the DST-i TBI CIED IUST Foundation under the chairmanship of Prof. Shakil Ahmad Romshoo, Vice Chancellor, IUST.

Prof. Romshoo said that IUST has played a significant role in building the capacities of youth across Jammu and Kashmir, with more than 10,000 young people, including a large number of women, benefitting from its programs. He added that the university’s 600 skill-based courses are designed to expose every student to capacity building and upskilling, thereby strengthening employability and entrepreneurship.

The Board reviewed the progress of DST-i TBI CIED, including entrepreneurship outreach programs, startup incubations, funding status, intellectual property filings, and the establishment of a Design & Development/Fab Lab. Mr. Praveen Roy, Head TTI, DST, GoI commended the vibrant entrepreneurial culture at IUST. It was also noted that the recent inauguration of the Innovation Campus by Union Minister Dr. Jitendra Singh has given further momentum to the university’s efforts.

Prof. Romshoo expressed gratitude to the Department of Science and Technology for its support and outlined future plans, including a Drone Manufacturing Lab, promotion of deep-tech startups, IoT and 75 satellite labs, extended outreach activities, and international collaborations.

Prof. Parvez A. Mir, Director, CIED, highlighted the Centre’s vision of fostering entrepreneurship and innovation. He said that CIED is committed to creating a nurturing ecosystem for startups and youth by providing skills, mentorship, and opportunities to translate ideas into sustainable ventures, thereby strengthening the innovation culture in the region.

Mr Adil SIDBI, Mr Faisal Kawoosa (CEO TechArch pvt ltd) and Confederation of Indian Industries Director Mr Khurshid Ahmed also attended the meeting. On this occasion, certificates were distributed among participants of various programs, including the Roof Topping Program with UltraTech Cement, Basic Excel Training, a skill development program on Tally software, and a week-long Faculty Development Program.
