CUKashmir’s DTS holds seminar on ‘World Food Day’

Ganderbal, October 16 (KIP)-Department of Tourism Studies (DTS), Central University of Kashmir (CUK) today commemorated the World Food Day-2025 by organising a seminar on the theme “Hand in Hand for Better Foods and a Better Future,”
In his inaugural address, Dr. Ashaq Hussain Najar, Coordinator, DTS emphasized the need for multi-stakeholder collaboration to tackle the persistent challenge of global hunger. He elaborated on sustainable management strategies and underscored the transformative role of modern technology and Artificial Intelligence in revolutionizing food production and distribution.
Dr. Ramjit, Dy Director R&D and Sr Asst Prof. gave a compelling analysis of the equilibrium between food production and consumption. He expressed concern over the rising consumption of junk food among Generation Z and advocated for a collective move towards balanced diets. Dr. Ramjit drew connections between the seminar's theme and the historic “Malthusian Theory,” offering a timeless lens through which to view contemporary food security issues.
Dr. Shahnaz Akhtar, Sr Asst Prof. shed light on the critical issue of food wastage and its severe environmental and economic repercussions. She educated the audience on making informed food choices, focusing on diets rich in essential nutrients and fiber. Dr. Akhtar recognized farmers as the “real champions” of the nation, acknowledging their indispensable contribution to India's development and food sovereignty.
A key feature of the event was the participation of students in the debate and quiz competition. The winner of the debate competition was Team B, comprising students from the MBA-TTM 3rd Semester and B.Voc-THM 5th Semester. The title of winner of the quiz competition was secured by Team A, with members from the MBA-TTM 1st Semester and B.Voc-THM 3rd Semester.
The competitions were adjudicated by a panel including Dr. Ramjit, Dr. Adil Amin Nazki, Asst Prof. and Dr. Shabir Ahmad Dar, Teaching Asst.
Dr. Kothapeta Lakshman, HoD, Politics and Governance Deptt, felicitated the winners with certificates during the valedictory session.
The event was moderated by Dr. Abid Suhail Nika, Asst Prof. while Dr. Rameez Ahmad Mir Teaching Asst proposed the vote of thanks.
