Jammu, November 07 (KIP)-Continuing its campaign for the upcoming bye-elections in the Nagrota Assembly constituency, the Jammu and Kashmir National Conference (NC) reaffirmed its commitment to fast-tracking all long-pending development projects to transform Nagrota into a model constituency.
A series of public meetings were held in Mathwar and Bhalwal areas, led by Satish Sharma Honble Cabinet Minister for Food, Civil supplies & Consumer Affaris, Transport, Science & Technology , Information Technology, Youth Services & Sports and ARI & Trainings and Provincial President Rattan Lal Gupta, accompanied by Bashir Ahmad Veeri Honble MLA , Babu Rampaul former minister, Tejinder Pal Singh Aman Provincial President YNC Jammu, Joginder Singh Kaku DDC Nagrota, Rakesh Singh Raka Vice President Central Zone, Raghvir Singh Manhas District President Jammu Rural A.
Addressing the gatherings, Satish Sharma said that Nagrota witnessed significant development under the stewardship of Shri Madan Lal Sharma, who nurtured the area’s pluralistic ethos and worked for the welfare of all sections of society, irrespective of caste, creed, or religion.
He said that during previous NC-led governments, the constituency made remarkable progress in sectors such as tourism, agriculture, healthcare, education, and sports. However, under successive BJP-led governments, Nagrota was “rescinded from the development radar,” as people were served only hollow promises and slogans instead of real progress.
Highlighting the ongoing efforts of the Omar Abdullah-led government, Sharma said,
“Our government is making earnest efforts to boost tourism and related activities by tapping the tourism potential of the Chenab riverfront for sporting and leisure opportunities. Equal focus is being given to upgrading basic utility services, enhancing employability, improving healthcare and education, and strengthening youth and sports infrastructure.”
He added that Shamim Begum’s victory would further strengthen these initiatives, noting her “impeccable record as a District Development Council (DDC) member.” Sharma also informed that several key projects, including solar plants, major roads, bridges, and connectivity works, are nearing completion. Proposals for mega projects have been sent to the Centre for approval, which, once cleared, will position Nagrota among the most developed constituencies in Jammu and Kashmir.
In his address, Rattan Lal Gupta emphasized that undoing the “developmental reverses suffered by Nagrota during the BJP’s decade-long indirect misrule” will be among the NC’s top priorities.
“The transformation being witnessed across Jammu and Kashmir under the leadership of Omar Abdullah will soon be reflected in Nagrota too — through better roads, healthcare, education, and utility services,” he said.
Gupta accused the BJP of misleading the people by exploiting emotive issues for electoral gains while neglecting real development concerns.
“That era of deception will end when the people elect Shamim Begum, who stands for transparency, progress, and inclusivity,” he added.
He further stated that Omar Abdullah’s leadership has restored public faith in democracy and institutions that had been undermined during the past several years of “undemocratic and indirect rule” by the BJP.
Concluding the campaign meetings, Shamim Begum made an emotional appeal to the people of Nagrota to strengthen the hands of Omar Abdullah and support the National Conference in its mission to ensure equitable growth and prosperity for all.
Among those were present in the meeting included: S. Sukhjit Singh, Thoru Ram Block President, Balwant Singh Block President, Davinder Singh Block President Kuldeep Sharma , S. Gurnam Singh Block President and others.
