Deptt of Biotechnology, DIA, hold seminar on Biotechnology and Entrepreneurship

Ganderbal, , November 07 (KIP)-Central University of Kashmir (CUK), in collaboration with Lincoln University, Malaysia, organized a one-day international seminar on “Biotechnology for Startups, Innovations & Entrepreneurship for Developing the Indigenous Bioeconomy” at the University’s Science Campus at Tulmulla here Thursday.

The event was jointly coordinated by the Department of Biotechnology and the Office of the Dean, International Affairs, and witnessed participation from students, research scholars, faculty members from the Departments of Biotechnology, Botany, and Zoology.

In his welcome address, Prof. Abid Hamid Dar, Dean, School of Life Sciences and HoD Biotechnology, expressed gratitude to the Vice-Chancellor, Prof. A. Ravinder Nath, and other dignitaries for their encouragement and participation. He highlighted the School’s vision of becoming a center for biotechnology-based startups and emphasized the role of students and scholars in realizing this goal.

Delivering the keynote lecture, Prof. Sandeep Poddar, Deputy Vice-Chancellor (Research & Innovations), Lincoln University, Malaysia, spoke about fostering a culture of innovation and translating academic research into commercially viable ventures. He emphasized the growing significance of biotechnology-driven startups in generating employment, addressing societal challenges, and advancing India’s position as a global innovation hub.

Prof. Poddar also held interactive discussions with faculty members, scholars, and students, exploring collaborative opportunities between the two institutions. He later visited the research laboratories of the Departments of Biotechnology, Zoology, and Botany where he was briefed about the ongoing research initiatives.
