New Delhi, November 14 (KIP)-Noted Tribal Researcher Dr. Javaid Rahi represent Jammu & Kashmir at the Two-Day National Festival of Tribal Languages of India, organised by the National Tribal Research Institute under the Ministry of Tribal Affairs, Government of India, at the India Habitat Centre. The festival concluded here today.

The event witnessed the participation of 150 tribal writers from across India, held as part of the observance of Janjatiya Gaurav Varsh, commemorating the 150th birth anniversary of Dhartiyaaba Bhagwan Birsa Munda.

In his address on Tribal Heritage, Dr. Javaid Rahi emphasised the urgent need for preservation and documentation of the oral traditions of Scheduled Tribe communities through modern audiovisual techniques. He also shared his experience in documenting Gujjar culture through major national projects such as the Folk-lore Dictionary of the Gujjar Tribe and the Encyclopaedia of Himalayan Gujjars, published under his editorship for the Ministry of Culture, Government of India. He highlighted that tribal knowledge systems—sustained for centuries through folk songs, folk tales, proverbs, and expressions of wisdom—require immediate and systematic documentation.

The event was graced by Savitri Thakur, Hon’ble Minister of State, Ministry of Women and Child Development, while Smt. Ranjana Chopra, Secretary, Ministry of Tribal Affairs, was the Special Guest on the occasion.
