GDC Bishnah NCC Cadets Visit Family of Vir Chakra Awardee Havildar Tilak Raj (VrC) Under ‘Veer Samagam’ Initiative

Bishnah,November 20 (KIP)-As part of the NCC Day 2025 celebrations and under the directions of the 8 J&K Girls Battalion NCC, Jammu, a contingent of cadets from the 8 J&K Girls Battalion at Government Degree College, Bishnah, visited the residence of Vir Chakra Awardee Havildar Tilak Raj (VrC) at Village Arnia, Tehsil Bishnah, District Jammu, on Thursday, November 20, 2025. The visiting team was accompanied by Dr. Kusum, CTO, and Dr. Pallavi Bansal, Faculty Member, GDC Bishnah. The programme was organized under the guidance of Dr. Shallu Samyal, Principal, GDC Bishnah.
Havildar Tilak Raj (VrC) served with Alfa Company, 6 Jammu and Kashmir Rifles as the Heavy Machine Gun Detachment Commander at Dalunangon on the Line of Actual Control during Operation Savage (Sikkim). He was awarded the Vir Chakra on January 26, 1993, for displaying extraordinary courage, resolute duty, and making the supreme sacrifice while fighting the enemy. His gallant action saved the lives of his comrades and prevented significant loss of critical defence infrastructure.
The visit was organised under the theme “Veer Samagam: Visit and Interaction with Veer Naris/Matas”, aimed at honouring the sacrifice of fallen soldiers and expressing gratitude to their families. During the interaction, cadets engaged with his wife, Smt. Neelam Kumari, and paid respectful homage to Havildar Tilak Raj for his exemplary bravery and service to the nation. A memento from 8 J&K Girls Battalion NCC, GDC Bishnah, was presented to Smt. Neelam Kumari as a mark of respect and remembrance.
Speaking on the occasion, cadets expressed that the visit instilled in them a deeper sense of patriotism and responsibility, reinforcing the values of dedication, sacrifice, and national service that NCC upholds.
