Srinagar, November 21 (KIP)- Peoples Democratic Front (PDF) Chairman and former Minister Hakeem Mohammad Yaseen on Friday expressed deep concern over the attacks on Kashmiri students and traders in several states outside the Valley, terming the incidents “highly unfortunate”.
In a statement, Yaseen said that while the Delhi blast was an unfortunate incident and deserves unequivocal condemnation regardless of who is responsible, the harassment of Kashmiri students, traders and shawl sellers in its aftermath is unacceptable.
“I have always condemned violence in any form. Harassing innocent people is not a solution to anything,” he added.
Hakeem Yaseen said Jammu and Kashmir has always upheld secularism and communal harmony, and described the region as “the head of India”. He noted that minor and major incidents occur in various states, “but people are not targeted the way Kashmiris are being harassed in some places.”
He questioned why Kashmiris are being singled out:
“Jammu and Kashmir is undoubtedly an integral part of India, but why are Kashmiri people being targeted in every nook and corner of the country?”
Yaseen appealed to the Prime Minister and Home Minister Amit Shah to intervene and ensure the safety of Kashmiris outside the Valley, especially since the region is already reeling from tragedies such as the Pahalgam attack.
He cautioned that such incidents only fuel hatred and also cause economic losses for Kashmiri traders. He urged PM Modi, Home Minister Amit Shah, Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha to take strict action against those responsible for these acts and ensure they are identified and monitored.
The government must safeguard Kashmiri students and traders across the country so that such incidents do not recur. Investigations are necessary, but they should not come at the cost of harassment of Kashmiris,” he said.
Referring to the accidental explosion at Nowgam Police Station in Srinagar, Yaseen said that although several lives were lost, the government has assured a thorough inquiry, and “hopefully the facts will come before the public.”
He further stated that the harassment of students and traders should not be politicised, and demanded that the respective state governments take immediate action to stop such incidents.
