One day Awareness program under HADP

Jammu, November 27 (KIP)- The SKUAST-Jammu team under HADP Project No. 16: Alternate Agriculture System for Sustainability organised a One-Day Awareness Programme on “Importance of Organic Farming” at the Community Hall, Panjgarian, Nagrota, within the Organic Cluster of Serikalan. A total of 55 farmers (men and women) participated in the programme, where they were sensitised about the significance, principles, and multifaceted advantages of organic and natural farming systems.
Prof. (Dr.) Parshant Bakshi, Project Coordinator, graced the occasion as the Chief Guest. In his address, he encouraged farmers to increasingly adopt organic practices for healthier soils and sustainable livelihoods. He also apprised participants about the Bio-Input Production Unit developed at the Centre for Organic and Natural Farming (CONF), Chatha, under the HADP project, highlighting how these locally produced inputs can significantly reduce dependence on chemical fertilisers and pesticides.
The programme was organised with the active support of the Panchayat representatives and Agriculture Department officials, including Sh. Thoru Ram, Sarpanch Panjgarian, Sh. Pankaj Bhawani (SMS, Dansal), Sh. Lalit Sharma (AEA, Panjgarian) and Sh. Jashod (AEA, Dansal), who facilitated the mobilisation of farmers and coordination of the event.
Dr. Balbir Dhotra, Principal Investigator of the project, delivered an informative session on how natural farming practices help restore soil fertility, minimise input costs, enhance crop resilience, and promote environmentally safe agricultural production.
The HADP team members, Rahul and Varun, also actively contributed to the programme by assisting in demonstrations and interactions, helping farmers understand the practical aspects of preparing and using organic inputs.
The farmers participated enthusiastically, shared their field experiences, and expressed appreciation for the initiative. They thanked SKUAST-Jammu and the HADP team for bringing valuable technical guidance directly to their village and motivating them to embrace climate-resilient and eco-friendly farming practices and requested such program in future.
