Srinagar, December 06 (KIP)- The Department of Electronics and Communication Engineering (ECE) on Saturday organised a specialised seminar on Satellite Antenna Technology, featuring Prof. Soumyabrata Chakrabarty, a senior scientist and leading expert in antenna engineering and space communication systems.
Prof. Chakrabarty, Professor of Practice at the Department of Space, Planetary & Astronomical Sciences & Engineering (SPASE) and Scientist/Engineer–G at the Space Applications Centre (SAC), ISRO Ahmedabad, delivered the session, focusing on advanced antenna concepts, emerging trends in space technology, and practical challenges in satellite communication.
The seminar was attended by Head ECE Department, Dr. G.R. Beigh Head T&P Prof. Aijaz Ahmad Mir, faculty members, and other dignitaries. Students from ECE, CSE (AI/ML), and learners interested in antenna research also attended the session.
In his message, Director Prof. Binod Kumar Kanaujia appreciated the initiative. “Bringing senior ISRO scientists to interact with our students reflects our commitment to quality technical education. Such engagements inspire young minds to think beyond textbooks and explore the vast potential of India’s space and communication sectors,” he said.
Prof. Roohie Naaz Mir, Incharge Director and Dean Research & Consultancy, also praised the initiative, stating that seminars led by national-level experts significantly elevate the academic environment.
“Such engagements not only broaden the technical horizons of our students but also strengthen our institution’s research ecosystem. We are committed to promoting platforms that encourage innovation, inquiry, and collaboration across departments,” she added.
Registrar Prof. Atikur Rehman also commended the effort. “These academic interactions bridge the gap between theoretical learning and real-world scientific challenges. We will continue supporting more research-oriented programmes for our students,” he added.
Head ECE Department, Dr. G.R. Beigh, reaffirmed the department’s commitment to strengthening research-based learning, emphasising that such expert-led sessions play a crucial role in exposing students to real-world technological advancements.
He said the department will continue to facilitate greater interaction between students and domain specialists to encourage innovation, research culture, and interdisciplinary academic growth.
Meanwhile, Prof.Charabarty also extended support for internships and collaborative project work, with IIT Kanpur and SAC ISRO noting that such academic linkages help students gain hands-on exposure to emerging technologies.
Dr. Yusra Banday was the coordinator of the technical session. She said the session aimed to enhance technical understanding and strengthen student engagement with cutting-edge developments in India's space sector.
