Srinagar, December 11 (KIP)- The Department of Architecture, Islamic University of Science and Technology (IUST) organised a Colonial Heritage Walk along the Lal Chowk Bund in Srinagar. Students of Architecture and Planning participated in this experiential learning activity aimed at deepening their understanding of architectural history, urban morphology, and the cultural heritage of Srinagar.

The guided walk commenced at the Emporium Complex and followed the Jhelum River embankment, allowing students to explore significant colonial-era structures that reflect a blend of vernacular and European architectural influences from Srinagar’s period as the summer capital of the princely state of Jammu and Kashmir. Key sites included the Emporium Complex, Mahatta Complex, J&K Bank Building, and Sheikh Bagh Cemetery. The initiative offered students valuable hands-on exposure to the city’s colonial legacy and its evolving urban fabric.
