Chief Secretary Visits Chushul, Barma and Chilam
Reviews Development Projects and Interacts with Nomadic Communities

Leh, May 31 (KIP)-As part of his two-day visit to Durbuk Sub-Division in Changthang, the Chief Secretary of the Union Territory of Ladakh, Ashish Kundra, visited several remote villages and project sites to review developmental works, assess public service delivery, and interact with local communities.
During his visit to Chushul, the Chief Secretary inspected the Pashmina Combing Centre, where he closely observed the pashmina combing process and interacted with the nomadic pastoralists engaged in pashmina production. He appreciated the contribution of the nomadic community towards preserving Ladakh's traditional pashmina heritage and emphasized the need to strengthen livelihood opportunities for pastoral families. On the occasion, he also distributed Nomad Kits to the beneficiaries.
The Chief Secretary later visited Barma village, where he held interactions with local residents and listened to their concerns and developmental aspirations. He assured them that the administration remains committed to addressing public issues and ensuring inclusive development in the region.
At Barma, he also inspected the ongoing construction of the Nomadic Museum, being executed by CPWD under the Changthang package. He reviewed the progress of the project and stressed the importance of completing the work within the stipulated timeframe so that the museum can serve as a repository of the rich cultural heritage, traditions, and lifestyle of the nomadic communities of Changthang.
Subsequently, the Chief Secretary visited Chilam village, where he inspected the ongoing construction of the Buddha Rock Garden Project being developed under the Special Development Package (SDP). He reviewed the quality and pace of work and directed the concerned agencies to ensure timely completion of the project. During the visit, he also planted a sapling at the Buddha Rock Garden, highlighting the importance of environmental conservation and sustainable development.
The Chief Secretary interacted with the villagers of Chilam and discussed various developmental issues concerning the area. He assured the residents that their genuine concerns would be addressed in a phased and time-bound manner.
During the visit, monks from Shachukul Monastery also met the Chief Secretary and submitted a memorandum highlighting various demands and issues related to the monastery and the local community.
The Chief Secretary gave a patient hearing and assured them that the administration would examine the matters and take necessary action for their timely resolution.
The Chief Secretary was accompanied by Secretary, School Education Department, Bhanu Prabha; Chief Engineer, PWD, Abdul Mutalib; Chief Engineer, PDD, Tsewang Paljor; Director Health Services, Ladakh, Dr. Tashi Thinles; along with district and sub-divisional officers during the visit.
