DC Sham Chairs First Meeting of District Level NCORD Committee

Khaltsi, July 06 (KIP)-The Deputy Commissioner, Sham, Smt. Kunzes Angmo (JKAS), today chaired the first meeting of the District Level NCORD (Narco Coordination) Committee to review the measures being implemented for the prevention and control of drug abuse, illicit trafficking, and narcotic cultivation in the district.
During the meeting, the Deputy Commissioner reviewed the progress made by various departments in implementing NCORD initiatives. The Deputy Commissioner emphasized the need for close coordination among all stakeholder departments and directed the concerned officers to intensify awareness campaigns, ensure effective monitoring, and take proactive measures to curb the spread of drug abuse, particularly among the youth.
The Committee deliberated on its Terms of Reference (ToR), which include strengthening intelligence and information sharing on drug trafficking trends, monitoring illicit cultivation of poppy and cannabis, reviewing the progress of investigations in cases having inter-state implications, promoting anti-drug awareness programmes in schools, colleges and vulnerable areas, implementing alternative development programmes in regions affected by illicit cultivation, assessing the requirement of drug detection equipment and submitting proposals for procurement, and supervising drug de-addiction and rehabilitation centres in the district.
The meeting also discussed strategies to strengthen inter-departmental coordination, enhance enforcement mechanisms, and encourage community participation in building a drug-free district. The Deputy Commissioner directed all departments to work in close coordination and ensure timely implementation of the decisions taken during the meeting.
The meeting was attended by SSP Sham Ajaz Ahmed, SDM Khaltsi Mohd. Sharif, SDM Likir Gurmet Namgail, Omkar Nath Tiwari AE (civ) GREF, SHO Khaltsi and officers and officials.
