IUST Introduces One-Year PG Degree Programmes under NEP 2020

Awantipora, July 10 (KIP)- Islamic University of Science and Technology has introduced one-year postgraduate degree programmes in nine disciplines for graduates holding a four-year undergraduate degree (Honours/Research), in accordance with the academic framework prescribed under the National Education Policy 2020. The programmes, approved by the Academic Council, are aimed at providing a seamless progression to postgraduate education for eligible graduates while further aligning the University's academic ecosystem with the reforms envisaged under NEP 2020.



The programmes are M.A. Economics, M.Sc. Physics, M.Sc. Chemistry, M.Sc. Statistics, M.A. English, M.A. Journalism and Mass Communication, M.A. Islamic Studies, M.A. Arabic, and M.A. Philosophy. The introduction of these programmes represents a significant addition to IUST's NEP-aligned academic offerings and is intended to provide a pathway for FYUGP graduates to postgraduate education while focusing on the promotion of academic flexibility, interdisciplinary learning, and outcome-based education, in keeping with contemporary national and international practices.



Prof. Shakil Ahmad Romshoo, Vice Chancellor, said, "IUST has embraced the transformative vision of NEP 2020 through a series of academic reforms aimed at enhancing quality, flexibility, and innovation in higher education. The introduction of one-year postgraduate degree programmes is another important step in this direction. Designed with a strong emphasis on academic rigour and research preparedness, these programmes provide greater flexibility to learners while ensuring that postgraduate education remains aligned with evolving disciplinary and societal needs." He added, "IUST has evolved into a research-intensive university that focuses on fostering research excellence, multidisciplinary learning, and the development of future-ready human capital."



The programmes were approved by the Academic Council as part of the University's continuing efforts to strengthen its academic portfolio in line with national policy reforms. In this regard, Prof. Sheikh Aijaz Ahmad, Dean Academic Affairs (DAA), added, "The one-year postgraduate degree programmes complete an important component of the academic framework envisaged under NEP 2020 for graduates of four-year undergraduate programmes."
