MP Ladakh Haji Hanifa Jan Visits Government Degree College Kargil

Kargil, August 21 (KIP)- The Member of Parliament, Ladakh, Haji Hanifa Jan, visited Government Degree College Kargil today and interacted with the college administration, faculty, staff and students. He was warmly received by Principal Dr. Amjad Ali Abbasi, Dr. Salim Ahmad, Nodal Officer, Sankoo Campus, faculty and staff members.

At the outset, Principal Dr. Amjad Ali Abbasi made a detailed presentation before the Hon’ble MP on the overall functioning and development of the college, covering its academic programmes, courses, skill-development initiatives, infrastructure, student activities, achievements and other developmental interventions. This was followed by the submission of a memorandum by Mr. Syed Mustafa Kamal, Staff Secretary, highlighting various staff-related issues and concerns. The MP gave a patient hearing to the matters presented and assured his support and consideration.

Interacting with the students, Haji Hanifa Jan appreciated the efforts of the college administration, faculty and staff in promoting quality education and holistic development. He encouraged students to pursue knowledge with dedication and determination and emphasised the importance of volunteerism, social responsibility and service to society.

During the programme, students who had brought laurels to the college through their achievements in sports, skill-development activities and the Viksit Bharat Youth Leadership Programme at national and international levels were felicitated. Mr. Stanzin Norphail, Assistant Professor, Commerce, and Mr. Mumtaz Ahmad, Assistant Professor, Physics, were also recognised for their dedicated services as Convener Examination and Convener Admission, respectively.

The Student Council subsequently presented various demands and concerns relating to student facilities, infrastructure and welfare. A special request was made for the development of a proper college playfield, emphasising its importance for sports activities, physical fitness, intramural competitions and nurturing sporting talent. The MP gave a patient hearing to the students and assured them that he would explore possible avenues for addressing their genuine concerns.

The MP thereafter visited various Skill Centres of the college and interacted with students and instructors. He reviewed the ongoing skill-development courses and appreciated the efforts being made to equip students with practical, vocational and employable skills.

The visit concluded with the inauguration of the Intramural Sports Activities for the academic session 2026 by the MP, organised by the Department of Physical Education and Sports. The activities aim to promote sports participation, teamwork, discipline, sportsmanship and the overall personality development of students.

The programme was moderated by Ms. Fizza Bano, student of the college, while the Vote of Thanks was presented by Mr. Syed Mustafa, staff Secretary, GDC Kargil.
