Dr. Shamim Ahmad Assumes Charge as First Chief Medical Officer/Medical Superintendent

Khaltse, August 25 (KIP)-Dr. Shamim Ahmad today formally assumed charge as the First Chief Medical Officer/Medical Superintendent of Sham District, marking a significant milestone for the newly created district.
On his arrival at Nurla, he was accorded a warm reception by BMO Khalltse Dr. Javed Ahmad and the medical staff.
At Balu Khar, Dr. Shamim Ahmad received a traditional and enthusiastic welcome from the Nambardar, Khaltse; District President, INC Sham District; President, Merchant Association Sham; President, Stone Carving Society, Khaltse; and Vice President, Youth LBA Sham, who welcomed him en route to Khaltse.
He was further accorded a traditional welcome by the Secretary, LBA Sham; President, Women Alliance Khaltse; representatives from Temisgam; and villagers from across the Sham region.
Similarly, the newly appointed Chief Medical Officer/Medical Superintendent was warmly welcomed by doctors and medical staff at Saspol.
Addressing the gathering, the Secretary, LBA Sham, and Vice President, Youth LBA Sham congratulated Dr. Shamim Ahmad on assuming charge as the first CMO/MS of Sham District and extended their best wishes for his tenure.
Upon assuming charge, Dr. Shamim Ahmad congratulated the people of Sham on attaining district status. He emphasized the importance of strengthening healthcare services across the newly created district and assured that every effort would be made to ensure accessible, quality and timely healthcare services for the people of Sham.
He also stressed the need for coordinated efforts among health officials, medical staff and the community to improve healthcare delivery and effectively address the health needs of the people, particularly those residing in remote and far-flung areas.
Health Camp & Awareness Programme under Nasha Mukt Bharat Abhiyan Held at Govt. Higher Secondary School, Sakti
Health Camp and Awareness Programme was organised today at Government Higher Secondary School, Sakti, by AAM-PHC Sakti under the Nasha Mukt Bharat Abhiyan, with the objective of creating awareness among students and teachers about the harmful effects of drug and substance addiction and promoting a healthier, drug-free society.
The programme featured an informative awareness session by Dr. Padma Angmo, Consultant Psychiatrist, SNM Hospital, Leh, who was the guest speaker. She sensitised the students and teachers about the physical, psychological and social consequences of drug addiction, the importance of early intervention, and the need to seek timely help and support for individuals affected by substance use.
Alongside the awareness programme, comprehensive health services were provided to the students and staff. Screening for anaemia was carried out under the Anaemia Mukt Bharat Programme of the Ministry of Health & Family Welfare, Government of India, along with Hepatitis screening, as part of the ongoing efforts to strengthen preventive and promotive healthcare at the community level.
The Principal, Government Higher Secondary School, Sakti, also addressed the gathering and appreciated the initiative, emphasising the important role of schools, teachers and parents in guiding young people towards healthy and responsible choices.
On the occasion, Dr. Jigmet Wangchuk, Medical Officer, AAM-PHC Sakti, expressed his gratitude to the Principal, teachers and students for their active participation and cooperation in making the programme meaningful and successful. He also highlighted the importance of continued collaboration between health institutions and educational institutions in promoting awareness, early screening and preventive healthcare.
The programme concluded with a renewed commitment towards “Nasha Mukt Bharat” and ensuring that young people are empowered with knowledge, awareness and access to appropriate health services for a healthier future.
