DC Drass Reviews Status of Drinking Water Tap Connections Under JJM
Directs Officials to Ensure Water Supply to Every Village

Drass, August 25 (KIP)-The Deputy Commissioner Drass, Imteeaz Kacho (JKAS), took a comprehensive review meeting today to assess the status of drinking water tap connections and the implementation of the Jal Jeevan Mission (JJM) across Drass District.
The meeting was attended by Sub-Divisional Magistrate Vishal Atri; Executive Engineer, PHE (Jal Shakti) Division; Tehsildar (HQ) to Deputy Commissioner; concerned Junior Engineers of Drass and Bhimbat Blocks, besides other concerned officials.
During the meeting, the Deputy Commissioner reviewed the progress of various water supply projects and schemes, including those at Manman, Tesar, Tololing, Pandrass Colony and other localities , besides schemes involving rock dams at Khunda, Jasgund and Dandal Thang.
The Executive Engineer informed that a total of 32 water supply schemes are being implemented across Drass District and that 2,539 households have been given connections. The status of water supply to Government Schools and Anganwadi Centres was also reviewed. The Deputy Commissioner was also informed that against a target of 44 connections, 43 Schools have been given connections and that all 66 Anganwadi Centres have been provided water connections.
The Deputy Commissioner reviewed the schemes and their progress in detail through the online monitoring system and sought village-wise updates from the concerned officials. Water-related issues of Throngos, Pandrass, Shimsha, Matayeen, Holiyal and Lamar villages/localities, among other areas, were discussed extensively.
Issues concerning new household connections, seasonal availability of water and supply through pumping systems were also deliberated upon. Officials informed that in certain areas, particularly Matayeen village, water supply through pumping arrangements is presently available mainly during the summer months. The increasing demand for new JJM connections to the new households and population growth, were also discussed.
The Deputy Commissioner stressed on the fact that Drass has considerable natural water resources and directed the PHE (Jal Shakti) Department to make the best possible use of available sources while ensuring sustainable and reliable drinking water supply. He instructed officials to address individual and village-level grievances promptly and take immediate corrective action wherever supply-related issues arise. Special emphasis was laid on ensuring uninterrupted drinking water availability during the harsh winter months.
Detailed discussions were also held regarding winter preparedness and the requirement for water tankers in areas where regular supply may get disrupted. The Sub-Divisional Magistrate emphasized the importance of keeping adequate tanker arrangements ready during winter. In this regard, the Deputy Commissioner directed officials to prepare necessary contingency measures well in advance.
