DC Sham Chairs Meeting on Panchayat Elections and Nomination Process

Khaltse, October 28 (KIP)- Deputy Commissioner/District Panchayat Election Officer (DPEO), Sham, Smt. Kunzes Angmo (JKAS), chaired a meeting at the DC Conference Hall, Khaltse, to discuss upcoming Panchayat elections and the nomination process.
During the meeting, the Deputy Commissioner discussed various aspects of the election process, with particular emphasis on ensuring a smooth, transparent and orderly nomination process.
The meeting also focused on the designation and location of the offices of Returning Officers (ROs) and Assistant Returning Officers (AROs), where candidates would be required to file their nomination papers.
The Deputy Commissioner also gave a detailed presentation through a PowerPoint (PPT) on various aspects of the Panchayat elections, including the election of Sarpanches and Panches, as well as the reservation of seats for women in various Panchayat Halqas falling under Sham District.
The following schedule for the Panchayat elections was discussed during the meeting:
* October 26, 2026 :
Issuance of notifications for general elections to Panchayat Halqas by the Administrator and the State Election Commission.
* November 2, 2026 : Last date for filing nominations.
* November 3, 2026 : Scrutiny of nomination papers.
* November 5, 2026 : Last date for withdrawal of candidature.
* November 21, 2026 : Date of polling.
* November 30, 2026 : Deadline for completion of the election process.
The meeting was attended by SDM/RO Sham, Mohd. Sharif, Naib Tehsildar HQ, Attaullah Khan, BDO Khaltse, Puntsog Angchok, Presidents of all political parties, and Lambardars of District Sham.
