SKUAST-J Head of Fruit Science Honored with IAHS Fellow Award for Fruit Science

Jammu, January 30 (KIP)-Prof. Parshant Bakshi, Head of the Division of Fruit Science at Sher-e-Kashmir University of Agricultural Sciences and Technology of Jammu (SKUAST-J), has been conferred with the prestigious "Fellowship Award 2024" by the Indian Academy of Horticultural Sciences (IAHS)-India’s oldest professional horticultural society, established in 1942 and comprising over 2,400 members. This esteemed recognition acknowledges Prof. Bakshi’s outstanding contributions to Fruit Science research and development, particularly in advancing sustainable horticulture practices.

The award was presented to Prof. Bakshi during the Annual General Body Meeting of IAHS, held as part of the National Conference on “Digital Technologies for Transforming the Horticulture Sector” at the Indian Agricultural Research Institute (IARI), New Delhi, on January 28, 2024. Notably, he is the first scientist from Jammu & Kashmir to receive this prestigious honor in Fruit Science R&D since the society's inception.

The conference's inaugural session was attended by eminent agricultural leaders, including Prof. Ramesh Chand, Member, NITI Aayog, New Delhi, Dr. T. Mohapatra, Former Director General, ICAR & Chairperson, PPV&FRA, Dr. Sanjay Kumar Singh, Deputy Director General (Horticulture), ICAR, Dr. Devesh Chaturvedi, Secretary, DA&FW, Government of India, Dr. S.K. Malhotra, Vice Chancellor, MPHU, Karnal, Dr. V.B. Patel, ADG (Horticulture), ICAR

Expressing gratitude, Prof. Bakshi dedicated this achievement to his mentors, family, friends, horticulturists of Jammu & Kashmir, and students, whose unwavering support and encouragement have been instrumental in his journey. He also extended special thanks to Padma Shri Dr. K.L. Chadha, President of IAHS, for his invaluable guidance and inspiration, and to Dr. B.N. Tripathi, Hon’ble Vice Chancellor, SKUAST-Jammu, for his support and encouragement.
