NC didn’t allow Assembly to run; it ran away from discussions: LoP Sunil Sharma

Srinagar, April 12 (KIP)- Bharatiya Janata Party’s General Secretary for Jammu & Kashmir, Leader of Opposition and MLA Sunil Sharma, today held a press conference in Srinagar, where he strongly criticized the National Conference (NC) government for making hollow promises and failing the people of J&K.

Sharma slammed the NC government for claiming to provide 1 lakh jobs to the youth of Jammu & Kashmir, yet not even 50,000 jobs have materialized in the past six months. He further said that NC’s promise of 200 units of free electricity to all households turned out to be a lie, as only AAY ration card holders—a very small percentage of the population—benefit from this scheme.

“NC government’s record is full of betrayals. Shops were closed, schools remained shut, and chaos reigned when they were in power. It was during NC’s rule that schools and hospitals were set ablaze by terrorists. Over 1,000 NC workers were killed under the leadership of Dr. Farooq Abdullah and Omar Abdullah when they held the Home Department,” Sharma stated.

In contrast, Sharma highlighted the BJP’s track record:
“After BJP took over governance in J&K, not a single NC worker has been harmed. This is because our Home Minister ensures the safety and security of every citizen. We have resolved to root out terrorism from J&K once and for all,” he said.
He further accused NC of fooling daily wagers by promising regularization but taking no concrete steps in that direction. “NC’s manifesto is nothing but a bundle of lies,” he said.

Speaking on the issue of statehood, Sharma made it clear that:
“Restoration of statehood is part of BJP’s narrative, not NC’s. Omar Abdullah should not mislead the people. It will be restored at an appropriate time, but not through religious sloganeering inside the Assembly.”

He strongly condemned attempts by NC leaders to provoke communal sentiments in the Legislative Assembly. “Assembly is a place for policy and debate, not for inciting divisions. Such behavior only proves that NC is trying to create communal rifts for political gain,” he said.
Recalling past controversies, Sharma said:
“When the late Mufti Mohammad Sayeed became Chief Minister, he released separatist Masrat Alam—and NC workers celebrated his release. This exposes NC’s dual-faced politics.”

Sharma reassured the people that terrorism has been pushed back into forests, and the valley is witnessing peace and development under BJP rule.

“Today, even the graves of NC leaders are protected by security forces, which speaks volumes about the peace that has been established. Schools are functional, businesses are thriving, and the people of J&K can feel the positive change,” he concluded.

The BJP remains committed to its vision of “Sabka Saath, Sabka Vikas”, and will continue working tirelessly to bring peace, progress, and prosperity to Jammu & Kashmir.
