3-Day Painting Exhibition on “Tribal Culture” Concludes at Kala Kendra, Jammu

Jammu, April 13 (KIP)-A three-day painting exhibition highlighting tribal culture titled "Whispers of Hills" by renowned artist Muneer Ali Khan concluded today at Kala Kendra, Jammu with a special closing ceremony graced by Shri Alok Kumar, IPS, Additional Director General of Police and Director of Fire & Emergency Services, Jammu and Kashmir, who was the Chief Guest on the occasion.
Organized by Kala Kendra Jammu, the exhibition showcased around 35 exquisite artworks by Muneer Ali Khan, offering a vibrant glimpse into the diverse and unique culture of the tribal Gujjar- Bakaerwal communities of Jammu and Kashmir.
In his welcome address, Dr. Javaid Rahi, Secretary of Kala Kendra, emphasized that the exhibition aimed to promote Tribal Culture and provide a platform for eminent artist Muneer Ali Khan to connect with a wider audience through his art. He noted that the exhibition was inaugurated earlier by Minister Shri Satish Kumar Sharma, and witnessed visits by several prominent personalities and art lovers at the Master Sansar Chand Gallery of Kala Kendra.
Speaking on the occasion, Alok Kumar, IPS, while praising the rich artistic heritage of Jammu and Kashmir and commended Muneer Ali Khan for his clarity of themes and expertise in portraiture. He lauded the artist’s efforts in portraying the tribal ethos and emotions through his vivid brushwork. He also appreciated the role of Kala Kendra in organizing such a purposeful and culturally enriching exhibition.
Muneer Ali Khan, in his address, provided insights into his artistic journey, stating that his inspiration is deeply rooted in the lives and traditions of the Gujjar-Bakarwal tribal communities. He shared that this exhibition is a tribute to his tribal identity, depicting the migratory lifestyle and cultural narratives of the community. He also spoke about his recently completed project on portraying the martyrs of Jammu and Kashmir, undertaken for the J&K Police.
Recipient of the erstwhile State Award in 2018, Muneer Ali Khan has had the honour of presenting his portraits to President of India Smt. Droupadi Murmu, Former J&K Governor Shri N.N. Vohra, and Lieutenant Governor Shri Manoj Sinha.
The exhibition received an overwhelming response from art enthusiasts, tribal representatives, students, and the general public, making it a memorable celebration of tribal heritage and contemporary art.
