Jammu, April 14 (KIP)-The Confederation of Dalit, OBC, Minority & Adivasi Organisations (DOMA), J&K, observed the 134th birth anniversary of Dr. B.R. Ambedkar with a spirited bike rally from Ambedkar Park, Resham Ghar Colony, to Ambedkar Chowk, Jammu. A large number of participants, under the leadership of Shri R.K. Kalsotra, State President of the Confederation, took part in the event.
The rally, titled March for Justice, aimed to uphold democratic values and safeguard the Constitution. Participants carried banners and raised slogans such as “Jai Bhim,” “Ambedkar Zindabad,” and “Baba Saheb Amar Rahe,” echoing the legacy of social justice championed by Dr. Ambedkar.
The rally was flagged off by Ashik Hussain , State President, Shia Federation. Speaking on the occasion, he stated, “Dr. B.R. Ambedkar was a beacon of knowledge who not only drafted the Constitution of India but also dismantled centuries of social injustice by securing equal rights for all citizens.”
Addressing the gathering, R.K. Kalsotra highlighted Dr. Ambedkar’s far-reaching contributions, noting, “Babasaheb was an institution in himself—an advocate not only for the oppressed, but also for women and the common people. He believed religion and politics should remain separate to preserve the integrity of governance.”
Kalsotra expressed concern over current challenges to the Constitution, stating, “Babasaheb laid the foundation for a strong and inclusive India through fundamental rights, yet today we see forces working against the very ideals he stood for. In the name of religion, the Constitution is being subverted.”
He emphasized the need to realize Ambedkar’s vision of a casteless society and called for a transformation in religious and social thought towards greater equality and inclusivity. “There will never be another visionary like Babasaheb, whose birth anniversary is now celebrated across the world,” he added.
However, Kalsotra also offered a critical reflection, pointing out that while Ambedkar urged unity among his followers, divisions within Dalit communities persist. “Instead of merely celebrating, we must honor his message by uniting and protecting the Constitution he gave us,” he said.
The rally culminated at Ambedkar Chowk, where participants paid tribute by garlanding the statue of Dr. Ambedkar as part of the Ambedkar Mela.
