CEC LAHDC Felicitates International Coach Mohd Abbass Nordakh

Leh, April 20 (KIP)-International Coach Mohd Abbass Nordakh from Ladakh, who recently led Team India in Ice Short Track Speed Skating at the 9th Asian Winter Games in Harbin, China, was felicitated by the CEC, LAHDC Leh, Tashi Gyalson, for his historic achievement. He is the first Ladakhi to serve as national coach at the Asian Winter Games. The felicitation took place in the presence of Deputy Chairman LAHDC Leh Tsering Angchuk and Hon’ble Executive Councillor Ghulam Mehdi. Abbass is a recipient of the District Award in Sports (2025) and holds international coaching certifications from IIHF (Finland, 2003), USA Hockey Level-4 (USA, 2011), and the International Skating Union (Singapore, 2019). His work in developing youth talent in ice hockey and ice speed skating in Ladakh has been widely appreciated. Under his guidance, Ladakh topped the medal tally at the 5th Khelo India Winter Games held in Leh earlier this year. He has also represented India and Ladakh internationally, winning medals at the Asian Trophy in Indonesia and SEA Trophy in the Philippines, and has coached at events in Romania and Taiwan. As Senior Coach with the Ice Skating Association of India, Abbass also conducted trials for the Asian Games in Thailand. His efforts have not only brought recognition to the region but have also inspired a new generation of winter sports athletes from Ladakh. Coach Abbass presented official Asian Games pins to the dignitaries as a gesture of sportsmanship and also handed over a souvenir to the Hon’ble CEC, expressing gratitude for his support towards sports and youth in the region.
