Encroachment of Temple Property of Minority Hindu Community Rising Under NC-Led Government: BJP

Jammu,November 10 (KIP)- The Bharatiya Janata Party has strongly condemned the growing cases of encroachment on temple and minority Hindu properties in Kashmir since the NC-led government assumed office in the Union Territory.
J&K BJP Spokesperson and Former MLC Girdhari Lal Raina said that the illegal occupation and construction activities on lands belonging to temples and the displaced Hindu community have alarmingly increased in recent months.
“Encroachment on temple lands in Kashmir is once again on the rise under the NC-led dispensation. The latest reports from village Nagam in Chadoora tehsil of Budgam District point to blatant violations of the Jammu and Kashmir Migrant Immovable Property (Preservation, Protection and Restraint on Distress Sales) Act, 1997,” Raina stated.
He revealed that a reportedly illegal house construction has taken place on temple land in Nagam village, allegedly by an individual closely associated with a senior leader of the ruling alliance. “This is not an isolated case—it reflects a disturbing pattern of complicity and administrative inaction,” he added.
Raina slammed the authorities for their failure to enforce the law despite repeated representations. “The district administration, responsible for safeguarding the left-behind property of displaced Hindus, has failed in its statutory duty. The contradictory reports submitted by the Tehsildar and Naib Tehsildar only reinforce suspicion of collusion at various levels,” he said.
Calling the situation a direct assault on the rights and faith of a persecuted minority, Raina demanded immediate intervention from the Lieutenant Governor’s administration. “Strict instructions must be issued to the concerned authorities, encroachments must be removed forthwith, and those involved—both the violators and the complicit officials—must face stern legal action,” he asserted.
Raina reiterated that the government must demonstrate zero tolerance for such violations if it truly stands for justice, transparency, and equality before law.
