CUKashmir celebrates National Education Day

Ganderbal, November 12 (KIP)-School of Education (SoE), Central University of Kashmir (CUKashmir), Tuesday celebrated National Education Day to commemorate the 137th birth anniversary of the first Education Minister of Independent India—Maulana Abul Kalam Azad—at Tulmulla campus here.
In his keynote address, Prof. Syed Zahoor Ahmad Geelani, Dean and Head, SoE, said, “Maulana Azad was instrumental in establishing the modern education system in independent India in terms of prioritising the development of modern skills like communication, creativity, critical thinking, scientific attitude and entrepreneurship among the students”. Prof Geelani highlighted Maulana Azad's contributions, particularly the establishment of a higher education regulatory body, the University Grants Commission (UGC), in 1956”. He also remarked that “Maulana Azad contributed immensely in educating the mindset of people at large”. He added, “the visionary potential of Maulana Azad can be appreciated by recalling his focus on the development of creativity, critical thinking, communication skills, scientific temper and vocational competence among the students, which are, incidentally, in perfect agreement with the vision shared by NEP-2020”. “We should take forward and materialise the vision and mission associated with Maulana Azad and NEP-2020”.
Students from various departments delivered speeches and shed light on the contributions and achievements of Maulana Azad and their relevance within the context of the vision shared by NEP-2020.
To assess the students' knowledge about various aspects and dimensions of NEP-2020, a quiz programme was conducted by Assistant. Prof. Dr. Gawher Ahmad Bhat and co-conducted by research scholar, Mr. Manas Ranjan Das.
Faculty members, scholars and students attended the event. The programme proceedings were conducted by semester-I, IBM student, Ms. Adhila Rabsha T.
