CUKashmir observes Intl Mother Language Day

Ganderbal, February 21 (KIP)-Dean Students Welfare (DSW), in collaboration with the Department of Kashmiri, Central University of Kashmir (CUKashmir) organized a debate competition and a signature campaign on the International Mother Language Day here.

The event was held under the theme, “Digitizing our Roots: Preserving Language Through Technology,” reflecting the growing need to safeguard linguistic heritage in the digital age.

Speaking on the occasion, Dean DSW, Dr. Jehirul Islam, said, the programme aims to highlight the significance of mother languages in shaping identity and preserving culture. He said the Day brought together students, faculty members, scholars, and language enthusiasts to deliberate on innovative ways of preserving indigenous languages through digital platforms, documentation, and technological tools.

Students from various departments participated in the debate competition. Er. Afaq Alam, Asst Prof. Deptt of IT and Dr. Imitiyaz Hussain, Asst Prof. Deptt of Kashmiri were the jury members.

The first position was secured by Wani Tamana, from the Deptt of Law, while Falak Parvaiz from Deptt of Tourism and Farheen Shafi from Deptt of Kashmiri bagged the second and third position respectively. The event was moderated by Dr. Sumreena Gilani, Asst Prof. Deptt of Kashmiri while Dr. Ashiq Hussain, Asst Prof. Deptt of Kashmiri proposed the vote of thanks.
