DDAC Organise Awareness Program on Drug Abuse at Lankerchay

Kargil, March 31 (KIP)- Reinforcing the Union Territory of Ladakh Administration’s Zero Tolerance Policy towards drug abuse, the District De-Addiction Centre (DDAC) Kargil, under the District Social & Tribal Welfare Department Kargil, organized an awareness program on drug abuse and preventive measures.
The program was conducted under the Nasha Mukt Bharat Abhiyan in collaboration with IKMT, AJUIAK, Police Post Sankoo, and RBSK Sankoo at Government Higher Secondary School Lankarchay, Kargil.
The event commenced with a welcome address by Sajjad Hussain, Teacher at Government Higher Secondary School Lankarchay. This was followed by a quiz competition among students focusing on the Nasha Mukt Bharat Abhiyan aimed at spreading awareness about drug abuse and its prevention.
During the program, Sheikh Bashir Shakir, representative of IKMT, emphasized the importance of channeling one’s mind in the right direction to avoid addiction, particularly drug abuse. Aga Raza Rezvi, representative of AJUIAK, spoke about the growing menace of drug abuse and shared Quranic references discouraging substance abuse.
Feroz Admad, Sub-Inspector at Police Post Sankoo, informed students about laws and legal consequences related to drug abuse. Fayaz Ali, Counsellor at RBSK CHC Sankoo, highlighted the importance of awareness during teenage years to prevent students from being misled, especially when they move outside the region for higher education.
Shehnaz Parveen, international Taekwondo player stressed the students about the importance of physical and mental fitness and encouraged active participation in sports as a means to stay away from drugs.
Imtiyaz from DDAC elaborated on the objectives of the Nasha Mukt Bharat Abhiyan and the government’s Zero Tolerance Policy towards drug abuse.
Prizes were distributed to the winners of the quiz competition, and sports equipment was also handed over to the school to encourage healthy and active lifestyles among students.
The program concluded with a vote of thanks delivered by Rinchan Angmo, Principal of the school, who appreciated the collaborative efforts of all stakeholders in organizing the awareness initiative.
