J&K Police destroys illegal poppy cultivation in Anantnag

Srinagar, April 25 (KIP)-Continuing its crackdown against cultivation of narcotic substances, J&K Police destroyed illegal poppy cultivation spread over 10 marlas of land and registered 5 FIRs under the NDPS Act in separate operations across the district.

A police team of Police Station Dooru, in presence of the Executive Magistrate and officials of the Agriculture Department, destroyed illegal poppy cultivation. An FIR under relevant sections of the NDPS Act has been registered and investigation is underway. Moreover, a police party of Police Station Larnoo registered one FIR after detecting illegal cultivation of poppy in its jurisdiction. The crop was destroyed on the spot. Meanwhile, a police party of Police Station Pahalgam registered three separate cases against illegal poppy cultivation in different areas under its jurisdiction. Action was taken in coordination with the Revenue and Agriculture Departments.

J&K Police is committed to eradicating the menace of drug cultivation and trafficking from the district. General public is requested to cooperate with Police and share any information regarding illegal cultivation or sale of narcotics. The identity of informers will be kept confidential.
