DC Drass Reviews Traffic Management, Pushes for Bypass

Drass, May 02 (KIP)- The Deputy Commissioner Drass, Imteeaz Kacho (JKAS) today chaired a meeting of officers and stakeholders to review and strengthen the traffic management system in the district.

The meeting was attended by Superintendent of Police, Ishtyaq Kacho (JKPS), LAHDC Councillors of Rambirpora and Bhimbet Constituencies, Block Development Officer, Drass/Bhimbet, Shahid Sultan, various sectoral officers/officials and President and members of the Merchant Association of Drass.

During the meeting, detailed deliberations were held on the issue of traffic regulation particularly during school hours and the urgent need to designate spaces in the market area to park vehicles. This step will help ease the congestion, it was added. It was also highlighted that footpaths should be kept clear for easy passage of pedestrians.

Superintendent of Police, Ishtyaq Kacho provided inputs in the matter from various perspectives as ensuring smooth traffic movement on the National Highway is also necessary.

Highlighting infrastructure concerns, Councillor Abdul Samad and Abdul Wahid spoke of the urgent need for early completion of the bypass road to mitigate persistent traffic issues. The Deputy Commissioner acknowledged the concerns and emphasized the importance of expediting such developmental works.

The Deputy Commissioner also underscored the need to develop scenic and tourist-attractive spots in the area, including the development of a footpath stretching from Haripora to Lamochan and other recreational facilities to enhance tourism potential.

Further, he highlighted the need for preparation of a well-planned integrated drainage system which could be implemented alongside the installation of new drinking water pipelines to ensure clean, efficient and sustainable public utilities.

Block Development Officer, Drass/Bhimbet Shahid Sultan threw light on the need for sustained efforts by the community to maintain the toilets built under SBM. He gave information about the various facilities developed by the Rural Development & Panchayati Raj Department. The Deputy Commissioner urged that the community will have to extend a helping hand to keep Drass clean and to protect the fragile environment.

The President, Market Association raised concerns regarding the lack of proper washroom facilities in the spaces rented out by landlords to tenants. Taking a serious note of the issue, the Deputy Commissioner said that a stipulated time-frame will be fixed in order to enable building owners to construct adequate washrooms in the premises to prevent environmental degradation and to ensure public hygiene
