Chief Secretary reviews Leh Old Town upgradation and beautification plan

Leh, May 11(KIP)- The Chief Secretary of UT Ladakh, Ashish Kundra, today chaired a meeting to review the proposed upgradation and beautification works for Leh Old Town aimed at enhancing the heritage value, public infrastructure, and overall visitor experience in the historic area.
During the meeting, detailed discussions were held on the stage-wise implementation of various components of the project, including streetscape improvement, heritage lighting, installation of uniform signage, façade enhancement, pedestrian-friendly pathways, and overall urban beautification measures. The meeting also focused on maintaining the architectural and cultural identity of the Old Town while ensuring modern amenities and improved civic infrastructure.
Discussions were also held on improving accessibility, maintaining cleanliness, regulating visual aesthetics, and creating a more organised and attractive environment for residents and tourists alike.
Officials briefed the Chair on the current status of planning, design proposals, and the phased approach for execution of works. The Chief Secretary directed the concerned departments to ensure that the developmental initiatives are carried out sustainably while preserving the unique heritage character and traditional essence of Leh Old Town.
The meeting was attended by the Secretary ULB, Shurbir Singh; Secretary, PWD, Baseer Ul Haq Chaudhary; Secretary, Moses Kunzang, Deputy Commissioner/Director ULB, Romil Singh Donk, Chief Engineer, PWD, Executive Officer, Municipal Committee; and other senior officers from the concerned departments.
