Art Exhibition on Women’s Life Opens at Kala Kendra

Jammu, May 23 (KIP)-An art exhibition organized by Kala Kendra Jammu was declared open today in the presence of distinguished dignitaries at the Master Sansar Chand Gallery on the ground floor of the Kendra. The exhibition features the works of young artist Bharti Verma and will continue for three days.

The exhibition was inaugurated by Neeraj Sharma. Among those present on the presidium were Lalit Mangotra, Dr. Javaid Rahi, Shohab Anayat Malik, eminent artists Gokal Dembi and Bhushan Kesar.

In his welcome address, Dr. Javaid Rahi stated that around 40 artworks by Bharti Verma, a student of the Institute of Music and Fine Arts, were on display. He said that the exhibition was organized as part of Kala Kendra’s endeavour to promote young talent and provide emerging artists a platform to showcase their creativity.

Neeraj Sharma stated that the Institute of Music and Fine Arts under the University of Jammu and Kala Kendra would join hands for meaningful art events across the region in the future. Appreciating the work of Bharti Verma, he remarked that Jammu is full of talent and such talent must be channelized to showcase the rich culture of the region.

Dr. Shohab Anayat Malik described the exhibition as a significant achievement for Bharti Verma and said it was a matter of pride that her show was being hosted in the main gallery of Kala Kendra. He also demanded that the University’s Art Gallery be allotted to IMFA Jammu for promoting student artists.

Speaking on the occasion, Gokal Dembi recalled his own journey as a student of the Institute and emphasized that all cultural institutions should encourage and support young upcoming artists like Bharti Verma.

Padma Shri awardee Lalit Mangotra said that Bharti’s works reflect the essence of womanhood and portray the moving life of women through contemporary artistic trends and expressions.

Richta Datta, faculty member at IMFA, conducted the proceedings of the programme and presented the vote of thanks.
