Srinagar, June 01 (KIP)-As part of the ongoing 100-Day Nasha Mukt Jammu & Kashmir Abhiyaan, Police in Sopore carried out a series of coordinated enforcement and community outreach activities at multiple locations across the district to strengthen the fight against drug abuse and promote drug-free communities.
An inspection of medical and chemist shops falling within the jurisdiction of Police Post Fidarpora was conducted. During the drive, sale records, prescription registers, stock registers, and other relevant documents relating to scheduled and psychotropic drugs were scrutinized to ensure strict compliance with the provisions of the Drugs & Cosmetics Act, 1940. Shop owners were sensitized about their legal responsibilities and warned against any unauthorized sale or diversion of habit-forming medicines.
In a focused drive around educational institutions, Police inspected shops and commercial establishments in the vicinity of Government Degree College Sopore. Proprietors were sensitized and warned against the sale of tobacco products, e-cigarettes, gutka, and other intoxicating substances to students, in violation of the provisions of the COTPA Act and other applicable laws. The importance of maintaining a drug-free and tobacco-free environment around educational institutions was emphasized.
Parallel inspections were also carried out at medical shops in Main Town Sopore, where records and stocks of scheduled medicines were verified to prevent misuse and diversion of pharmaceutical drugs. Shopkeepers were directed to dispense medicines strictly against valid prescriptions issued by registered medical practitioners.
To strengthen community participation in the anti-drug campaign, a village-level awareness programme was organized at Seer Jagir under the jurisdiction of Police Station Tarzoo. The programme witnessed active participation from Lumberdars, Chowkidars, and local residents. Participants were sensitized about the social, health, and economic consequences of drug abuse and were encouraged to act as responsible stakeholders by reporting suspicious activities and supporting efforts aimed at counselling and rehabilitation of affected youth.
Police remains committed to a comprehensive strategy under the Nasha Mukt Jammu & Kashmir Abhiyaan, combining strict enforcement against drug trafficking with sustained public awareness and community engagement to build a safer, healthier, and drug-free society.
