Demands International Intervention on Human Rights Violations

Jammu, June 12 (KIP)-BJP Jammu & Kashmir Secretary Pawan Sharma has expressed grave concern over the worsening human rights situation in Pakistan-Occupied Jammu & Kashmir (POJK), where people continue to face political repression, economic exploitation, and restrictions on their fundamental freedoms.
Sharma stated that the ongoing wave of public protests across various parts of POJK reflects the growing frustration and resentment among local residents against misgovernance, economic hardships, lack of basic amenities, and the continued denial of democratic rights. Instead of addressing the genuine concerns of the people, the Pakistani authorities have reportedly resorted to intimidation, arbitrary detentions, and the use of excessive force against peaceful demonstrators.
He strongly condemned reports of police crackdowns on peaceful protests, which have allegedly resulted in the deaths and injuries of numerous civilians. He said that the use of force against unarmed citizens exercising their democratic right to peaceful assembly is unacceptable and raises serious questions about Pakistan's commitment to human rights and democratic values.
“The people of POJK are demanding dignity, justice, development, and democratic rights. Their voices cannot be silenced through force and repression. The reported killings and brutal treatment of peaceful protesters are deeply disturbing and deserve immediate international attention,” Sharma said.
He further observed that for decades the people of POJK have been deprived of genuine political representation and meaningful participation in decision-making processes affecting their lives. Reports emerging from the region indicate continued restrictions on freedom of expression, suppression of dissenting voices, and a lack of accountability in governance.
Sharma emphasized that every individual is entitled to the universal rights guaranteed under international human rights norms, including freedom of speech, peaceful assembly, political participation, and the right to live with dignity and security.
Calling upon the international community, the United Nations, global human rights organizations, and democratic nations to take serious cognizance of the situation, Sharma urged them to demand an impartial investigation into the reported atrocities against peaceful protesters and ensure accountability for human rights violations.
“The world cannot afford to remain silent when innocent civilians are allegedly being killed and harassed for raising legitimate concerns. The people of POJK deserve justice, transparency, democratic freedoms, and protection of their fundamental rights,” he added.
Sharma further stated that the continued suppression of public sentiment in POJK only highlights the urgent need for greater international scrutiny of the region. He urged Pakistan to immediately cease the use of force against civilians, release individuals detained for peaceful political activities, and create an environment where democratic voices can be heard without fear of persecution.
Reaffirming India's commitment to democratic values, human dignity, and the welfare of all people of Jammu & Kashmir, Sharma expressed solidarity with the residents of POJK in their pursuit of justice, peace, and fundamental freedoms.
