Says; utterances of LOP are weaken the democratic and Federal Structure of the Country

19/06/2026

Jammu June 19 (KIP)-The Jammu and Kashmir National Conference Provincial President Jammu Mr Rattan Lal Gupta said that the BJP leadership in Jammu and Kashmir is frustrated and confused because the Omar Abdullah-led Government has started fulfilling the commitments made to the people in its election manifesto despite functioning under the limitations of a Union Territory. The Government has been in office since October 2024 and has already taken several significant initiatives aimed at employment generation, social welfare, infrastructure development, education, health, tourism, and rural development.

Interacting with delegation of Sarpanches and Panches of Bhalwal Block headed by its Subash Chander Bhagat District President Jammu Rural “A” and Block President Bhalwal Mr Sukhdev Singh at Sher-e- Kashmir Bhavan, Jammu today. Mr Gupta emphasized the Omar-led Government's first Budget focused on employment, welfare, and inclusive development. Under Mission YUVA, the Government has set a target of creating 4.25 lakh employment opportunities and establishing 1.37 lakh enterprises over five years. Special emphasis has been laid on skill development and entrepreneurship for youth.

For the welfare of women, the Government announced free travel for women in government-owned public transport, including e-buses. Antyodaya families have also been provided enhanced free ration support, he added.

Gupta said that the Government has substantially increased development expenditure across key sectors:

Rural Development: ₹3,773.93 crore capital allocation.

Roads and Bridges: ₹4,062.93 crore allocation.

Irrigation and Water Supply: ₹2,662.71 crore allocation.

Health Sector: ₹1,750.50 crore allocation.

Education Sector: ₹1,388.97 crore allocation.

Industries Sector: ₹602.85 crore allocation.

Employment and Skill Development: ₹379.14 crore allocation.

The Government has also focused on the long-neglected Kandi areas of Jammu, Samba, and Kathua by accelerating water supply and irrigation projects. Tourism has witnessed unprecedented attention, with Jammu and Kashmir recording over 2.36 crore tourist visits, creating livelihood opportunities for thousands of families.

Gupta emphasized that, during the period of BJP-backed and LG administration, unemployment remained a major concern, many recruitment processes were delayed, and elected democratic institutions remained weakened. The people were deprived of an elected Government for several years. The Omar-led Government inherited numerous pending issues but has started addressing them systematically.

The National Conference Government remains committed to implementing its manifesto promises, including employment generation, relief in power and water sectors, social justice, and equitable regional development.

He further said it is unfortunate that despite repeated assurances, the Central Government continues to delay the restoration of Statehood to Jammu and Kashmir. Statehood is not a favour but a democratic and constitutional right of the people. The continued denial of Statehood weakens the federal structure of the country and creates unnecessary hurdles in the functioning of the elected Government.

The people of Jammu and Kashmir have reposed their faith in the Omar Abdullah-led Government. The BJP has been steadily losing its political ground because the people can clearly distinguish between genuine governance and political rhetoric. The National Conference Government is determined to complete its full five-year term and continue working for peace, prosperity, development, and the restoration of the democratic rights of the people of Jammu and Kashmir, he added.

Among others who were present included: Sheikh Bashir Ahmad Provincial Secretary Jammu, Vijay Lochan Chairman SC Cell, Rakesh Singh Raka Vice President Central Zone, Rajesh Kumar, Goutam Singh, Pinto Singh, Vijay Singh, Supinder Singh, Parveen Singh, Sohan Singh and Garo Singh.
