CEC Kargil Attends Grand Finale of Baltik Cricket League Kargil Vijay Diwas 2026-27

Kargil, June 22 (KIP)-Chairman and Chief Executive Councillor, LAHDC Kargil, Dr. Mohd Jaffer Akhoon, today attended the grand finale and prize distribution ceremony of the Baltik Cricket League Kargil Vijay Diwas 2026-27 held at the Baltik Cricket Stadium. The tournament was organized by the 21 Grenadiers Battalion under the aegis of the 192 Mountain Brigade with the objective of promoting sportsmanship, youth engagement, and national integration.
The event witnessed enthusiastic participation from local youth and cricket lovers from across the region. The week-long tournament, which commenced on June 15, 2026, featured competitive matches among teams from different areas and culminated in a thrilling final match played between Batalik and Chulichan team and Batalik won the match.
Brigadier Dev Panwar of 192 Brigade was the Guest of Honour on the occasion. Commanding Officer Ajay Kishore, Deputy Commandant J.V.S. Rawat, Headmasters of civil schools from Batalik, Darchik, and Silmo, Lambardars of the villages, and spectators from the local area were present. Administration officials, local representatives, sports enthusiasts, and members of the public also attended the closing ceremony.
The tournament was organized as part of the Kargil Vijay Diwas commemorations to honour the brave soldiers who made the supreme sacrifice during the 1999 Kargil War. Rich tributes were paid to the martyrs, and the gathering acknowledged the courage, dedication, and selfless service of the Indian Armed Forces in safeguarding the nation's sovereignty.
In his address, Dr. Mohd Jaffer Akhoon congratulated the organizers for successfully conducting the tournament and appreciated the Indian Army for taking such meaningful initiatives aimed at engaging local youth through sports and community outreach programmes. He expressed gratitude to the Army despite the geographical challenges of the region and commended its continued efforts in promoting youth development and social harmony.
The CEC emphasized the importance of physical and mental wellness and encouraged young people to actively participate in sports and other constructive activities. He remarked that sporting events play a crucial role in nurturing discipline, confidence, leadership qualities, and a spirit of teamwork among youth.
Highlighting the developmental achievements of LAHDC Kargil, Dr. Akhoon noted the significant progress made in the fields of education, sports infrastructure, tourism, and adventure tourism. He reiterated the Council's commitment to further strengthening sports infrastructure across the district and announced plans to expand and improve sports facilities, including the development of playgrounds to provide better opportunities for aspiring sportspersons.
The CEC also appreciated the contributions of the Indian Army and its various organizations towards the overall development and welfare of the region and acknowledged their continued support in empowering local youth.
On the occasion, mementoes, medals, trophies, and cash prizes were distributed among the participating teams and outstanding performers. The winning team was awarded a trophy, cash prize, and a cricket kit set, while the runners-up team also received a trophy, cash prize, and cricket kit set. Individual awards were presented to players who displayed exceptional performances throughout the tournament. The organizers expressed gratitude to all participating teams, officials, supporters, and members of the public for contributing to the success of the event.
