Four-Day Solar Training Workshop Begins at GDC Zanskar

Padum, Zanskar, July 28 (KIP)-A four-day Solar Training Workshop, jointly organized by Government Degree College (GDC) Zanskar and the Global Himalayan Expedition (GHE), commenced today with an inaugural ceremony attended by distinguished guests, faculty members, resource persons, and participants. The inaugural function was graced by Shri Omkar Gundage (IAS), Deputy Commissioner, Zanskar, as the Chief Guest, and Shri Rigzin Samdup (KAS), Superintendent of Police, Zanskar, as the Guest of Honour. The programme began with the traditional offering of khataks to the dignitaries and resource persons from GHE by Dr. Amjad Ali, Principal, GDC Zanskar, symbolizing respect and warm hospitality. Welcoming the gathering, Ms. Simar Kaur from the Global Himalayan Expedition delivered a detailed PowerPoint presentation outlining the objectives, schedule, and hands-on activities planned during the four-day workshop. She also highlighted GHE's pioneering work in promoting clean energy and sustainable rural electrification across the Himalayan region, particularly in Ladakh. Addressing the participants, Shri Rigzin Samdup (KAS), Superintendent of Police, Zanskar, appreciated the initiative taken by GDC Zanskar in collaboration with GHE to organize a practical skill-development programme in the field of solar technology. He emphasized the growing importance of renewable energy and encouraged participants to make the most of this valuable learning opportunity. In his keynote address, Shri Omkar Gundage (IAS), Deputy Commissioner, Zanskar, encouraged the participants to actively engage in the workshop and acquire practical knowledge that would benefit both their personal and professional lives. He also informed the participants about various government initiatives and schemes promoting solar energy and sustainable development in the region. The Deputy Commissioner further expressed his interest in strengthening collaboration between the Zanskar Administration and the Global Himalayan Expedition to explore future initiatives aimed at improving the quality of life of people in the region through renewable energy solutions.The programme concluded with a formal vote of thanks delivered by Dr. Amjad Ali, Principal, GDC Zanskar. He expressed his sincere appreciation to the Global Himalayan Expedition for partnering with the college to conduct the workshop and thanked the Chief Guest, Guest of Honour, resource persons, faculty members, and participants for their presence and enthusiastic support in making the inaugural programme a success. The programme is attended by 35 participants across the Zanskar. The programme was coordinated by Dr. Jamphel Sheyan, Assistant Professor of English, GDC Zanskar. The four-day workshop aims to equip students and local youth with practical skills in solar energy installation, maintenance, and sustainable energy practices, thereby contributing to the promotion of green technology and renewable energy awareness in the region.
