Attack on Outside Labourers a Heinous and Barbaric Act: CPI(M)

Srinagar, August 01 (KIP)- CPI(M) leader and MLA from Kulgam, Mohammad Yousuf Tarigami, has expressed deep shock and grief over the killing of two non-local labourers at a brick kiln in the Kelam area of Kulgam, describing the attack as a heinous, barbaric, and dastardly act.
"Two men who came to this land solely to earn a livelihood for their families were shot dead in cold blood. They had no weapons, no quarrel with anyone, and no stake in anyone's politics. They came here to work with their hands, and they were killed for it," that is extremely an inhuman act.
The labourers from outside Jammu and Kashmir travel across the country in search of work to support their families. In doing so, they contribute significantly to the development of the region by helping build roads, homes, and brick kilns.
"To strike down such men is to strike at the very idea of who we are as a people. We have always opened our homes and our hearts to those who come here to work. This attack is a blot on that spirit of hospitality and humanity,".
Condemning the killings in the strongest possible terms, he said that those responsible, whoever they may be, must be identified and brought to justice without delay.
"This is not merely an attack on two individuals. It is an attempt to spread fear and disrupt the fragile normalcy that the people of Kashmir have worked so hard to restore,".
"We share their grief. No words can lessen the pain of losing a loved one to such senseless violence, but I want the families to know that the people of Kashmir stand with them in this hour of sorrow," he said.
Such acts of violence, irrespective of who perpetrates them, are against the interests of the people of Jammu and Kashmir, who have consistently rejected violence and aspire for lasting peace. The administration must ensure adequate safety and security for migrant labourers working across the Valley and to expedite the investigation so that the perpetrators are brought to justice.
He further cautioned that such barbaric acts are often exploited by vested interests to spread hatred and deepen divisions, which is detrimental not only to Jammu and Kashmir but also to the larger interests of the nation.
