80th Independence Day Celebrated at GHS Likir with Patriotic Fervour

Likir, August 15 (KIP)-The 80th Independence Day of India was celebrated with great patriotic fervour at Government Higher School , Likir.
Sub-Divisional Magistrate (SDM) Likir, Gurmat Namgyal, hoisted the National Flag in the presence of Sub-Inspector Rigzen Angchuk, followed by the National Anthem presented by Ex-Servicemen, students of Government Higher School Likir and Ladakh Institute, Alchi.
Addressing the gathering, SDM Likir highlighted the significance of Independence Day and paid tribute to the sacrifices made by the freedom fighters. He spoke about the hardships faced by people before Independence and emphasised the importance of preserving the values of freedom, unity, peace and patriotism.
He also highlighted the longstanding spiritual, cultural and historical ties between India and Ladakh, and expressed appreciation for the support, hospitality and generosity extended by the Government and people of India to the people of Ladakh over the years. He noted that various welfare initiatives, educational opportunities and social support have contributed to the preservation of Ladakh’s rich culture, traditions and identity while promoting peace and development in the region.
The SDM further emphasised the importance of education and opportunities for the younger generation, noting that the shared values of Buddhist philosophy, peace and non-violence serve as an enduring bridge connecting communities. He expressed hope that the spirit of unity, harmony and mutual respect would continue to grow stronger in the years ahead and extended his wishes for the continued peace, prosperity, progress and unity of the nation.
The celebrations witnessed an impressive parade by three contingents comprising Ex-Servicemen from Likir, students of Government Higher Secondary School Likir and students of Ladakh Institute, Alchi. The parade was led by Retired Subedar Tsewang Phunchok. The contingents thereafter marched past with discipline and coordination, reflecting a strong spirit of patriotism.
The programme also featured a variety of cultural performances. Students of GHS Likir presented cultural performances, while students of Ladakh Institute, Alchi presented a dance. The boys of GHS Likir performed the traditional Chabskang, while the girls presented a Ladakhi song. Traditional dance performances by village women further added colour to the celebrations.
As part of the celebrations, Certificates of Appreciation were presented to villagers in recognition of their selfless services to the public and contributions towards public welfare and village development.
Awards were also distributed among participants of the parade, cultural performances and other activities in recognition of their enthusiastic participation and contribution to the successful conduct of the Independence Day celebrations.
