Executive Councillor Altaf Hussain Holds First Review Meeting with I&FC and PHE Departments

Kargil, August 18 (KIP)-Executive Councillor for Irrigation & Flood Control (I&FC) and Public Health Engineering (PHE), LAHDC Kargil, Altaf Hussain, today chaired a comprehensive review meeting following the allocation of portfolios, taking stock of ongoing schemes, pending works and key departmental issues across Kargil.

The Superintending Engineers of I&FC and PHE presented detailed updates on ongoing schemes, pending DPRs, liabilities, works already accorded and tendered, works under the tendering process, and proposed works requiring immediate attention. The meeting also reviewed technical and administrative issues affecting the timely execution of various projects.

A detailed review was also undertaken of the restoration works in areas affected by the recent flash floods, with particular focus on the status of temporary restoration and measures required for permanent solutions.

The Executive Councillor reviewed the status of irrigation kuls, including those already restored, ongoing restoration works and pending kuls, besides assessing the funding, tendering, technical and logistical requirements for completing the works before the onset of winter.

Executive Councillor Altaf Hussain directed both departments to identify completed and near-completion works for inauguration and to expedite all pending works on a priority basis. He further directed the concerned officers to prepare and submit estimates for the permanent restoration of damaged irrigation kuls, drinking water sources, submersible systems and Jal Jeevan Mission pipelines, so that the cases could be processed and forwarded for necessary funding and execution at the earliest.

He stressed the need for immediate provision of drinking water in areas facing shortages and directed the departments to promptly address public grievances, particularly those arising from the recent flash floods.

Emphasising the importance of coordination, the Executive Councillor said that effective cooperation among the concerned departments, local representatives and the District Administration is essential for ensuring smooth implementation of works and timely resolution of public issues.

He called upon the officers to work in close coordination, maintain close monitoring of restoration works and ensure that critical infrastructure is made functional and strengthened before the onset of winter.

The meeting was attended by the Superintending Engineers and Executive Engineers of I&FC and PHE, along with Assistant Engineers and Junior Engineers from both departments.
