DC Drass Reviews Arrangements for National Sports Day (2026) and Youth Engagement Month event in Drass

Drass, September 08 (KIP)-Deputy Commissioner Drass, Imteeaz Kacho (JKAS) today took a meeting to review and finalize arrangements for the upcoming National Sports Day (2026) and Youth Engagement Month activities to be organized at the Ice Hockey Rink in Drass .
The meeting was attended by Superintendent of Police Ishtyaq Kacho (JKPS), Sub-Divisional Magistrate, Chief Medical Officer, Block Development Officer, Zonal Physical Education Officer, Youth Services & Sports Officer, Junior Engineer, PWD Division and other officials.
During the meeting, the Zonal Physical Education Officer informed that Drass District will be hosting volley ball matches on 18th and 19th September and that male and female teams of all seven Districts of the Union Territory will be participating.
The Deputy Commissioner said that the event will be held at the Ice Hockey Rink and passed instructions for undertaking the necessary repairs there. He directed all concerned departments to ensure that necessary arrangements are completed well in advance. Further, he laid special emphasis on the installation of interlocking mats, proper lighting, cleanliness and sanitation, availability of drinking water, functional washrooms and changing rooms and adequate seating arrangements for participants and spectators.
The Deputy Commissioner directed the concerned departments to accord top priority to cleanliness and sanitation at the venue and ensure that proper cleanliness is maintained before, during and after the events. The need for having stalls of various Departments, NRML, SHGs, etc. at the venue during the event was also discussed.
The stalls should focus on TB screening and testing, Jal Jeevan Mission (JJM), water quality testing, drug abuse prevention and other public awareness initiatives, he added. He further directed that a dedicated medical team should be deployed at the venue to provide necessary healthcare support throughout the programme.
In order to make the programme more engaging and vibrant, the Deputy Commissioner emphasized the inclusion of cultural programmes alongside the sporting activities. Moreover, he emphasised that the youth engagement event should serve not only as a sporting event but also as a platform to encourage youth participation, promote healthy lifestyles, strengthen community engagement and create awareness about important social and public health issues.
