NIT Srinagar hosts workshop on 'Principles and Practices of Translation '

Srinagar, September 17 (KIP)-As part of the ongoing Hindi Pakhwada celebrations, the Rajbhasha Cell of the National Institute of Technology (NIT) Srinagar organised a workshop on “Hindi to English and English to Hindi Translation: Principles and Practical Exercises” at the Institute.
Dr. Mudasir Ahmad, Assistant Professor, Department of Hindi, University of Kashmir, was the resource person for the programme. He delivered a detailed lecture on the principles, techniques, and practical aspects of Hindi-English and English-Hindi translation.
During the session, Dr. Mudasir Ahmad highlighted the importance of accuracy, clarity and context in translation. He explained that effective translation is not limited to word-to-word conversion and requires proper understanding of the meaning, intent, and cultural nuances of the source language.
Dr Mudasir also conducted practical exercises and shared examples to help participants understand common challenges associated with Hindi-English and English-Hindi translation.
The interactive session provided participants an opportunity to engage with the speaker and seek clarifications on various aspects of translation.
Director, NIT Srinagar, Prof. Anurag Misra, in his message, emphasized the importance of promoting the use of Hindi in official communication and encouraged staff to actively participate in Rajbhasha-related activities.
He said that greater use of Hindi would help strengthen effective communication and further the objectives of the Official Language policy.
Registrar, NIT Srinagar, Prof. Atikur Rehman, also highlighted the role of Rajbhasha activities in creating awareness about the importance of Hindi in day-to-day official work.
He encouraged the institute community to make greater use of Hindi in accordance with the provisions of the Official Languages Act.
Speaking on the occasion, Hindi Adhikari, NIT Srinagar Dr. R.P. Shukla said that Hindi Pakhwada provides a platform to encourage greater use of Rajbhasha Hindi in official communication and helps build confidence among employees in adopting Hindi in their day-to-day work.
He emphasised that the provisions of the Official Languages Act, 1967, should be effectively implemented to promote Hindi in administrative functioning in a structured and consistent manner.
The programme witnessed participation from faculty members, officers, staff and students of NIT Srinagar. Participants actively engaged in the lecture and practical exercises.
The programme was moderated by Hindi Anuvadak, NIT Srinagar, Dr. Sabzar Ahmad Battoo, and Departmental Coordinators, Rajbhasha Cell, including Dr. Zubair Ansari, Dr. Pramod Kumar Yadav, Dr. Atendra Kumar and Dr.Prvan Kumar Katiyar.
The workshop was also attended by Assistant Registrar (Stationery & Printing) Hakim Mohammad Amin, Sr. Superintendent (Accounts) Mohammad Ashraf, and other dignitaries.
Dr. Zubair Ansari delivered the vote of thanks and expressed gratitude to Dr. Mudasir Ahmad for sharing his expertise and to all the participants for their active participation in the programme.
