National Sports Day/Youth Engagement Month Volleyball Tournament Concludes at Drass
District Kargil emerges winner in male and female categories

Drass, September 19 (KIP)- The National Sports Day 2026 – The National Sports Day/Youth Engagement Month Volleyball Tournament concluded today at Drass with a closing ceremony, marking the successful culmination of activities aimed at promoting sportsmanship, youth engagement, healthy lifestyles and a drug-free society.
Deputy Commissioner Drass, Imteeaz Kacho attended the closing ceremony along with Zonal Physical Education Officer and Officials of Youth Services & Sports Department; Zonal Education Officer, Child Development Project Officer, Shubham Nautiyal, Senior Programme Officer (Sports), HCL Foundation and his colleague, Muzammil Lone of Save the Children Fund and representatives of the Volleyball Association and others apart from sports enthusiasts.
The concluding day featured the thrilling final matches of the Boys' and Girls' segments. In the Boys' category, District Kargil emerged as the winner, while District Drass secured the runners-up position. In the Girls' category, District Kargil emerged victorious, while District Sham finished as the runners-up. All teams displayed immense sportsmanship spirit amid complete concentration during the matches.
Following the final matches, Deputy Commissioner Drass distributed trophies and certificates among the winners and runners-up. He personally interacted with the players, shook hands with them and congratulated them on their impressive performances, enthusiasm, discipline and sporting spirit.
In his address, the Deputy Commissioner congratulated all the finalists and participants and appreciated their active involvement in the tournament. He also expressed his gratitude to the Youth Services & Sports Department for successfully organising the programme and thanked the guests and participating teams for contributing to the success of the event.
The Deputy Commissioner said that the youth of Drass have tremendous interest and potential in sports and expressed hope that more sporting events and games would be organised in the region in the future. He encouraged the youth to participate actively in sports and take full advantage of the opportunities and facilities available to them.
Highlighting the importance of a healthy and responsible lifestyle, the Deputy Commissioner urged the youth to stay away from drugs and substance abuse and seek guidance from appropriate persons and institutions whenever they are in distress. He called upon the younger generation to contribute towards the vision of a Drug-Free Ladakh.
The Deputy Commissioner also emphasised the collective responsibility of keeping Ladakh clean and environmentally sustainable. He appealed to the participants to minimise the use of plastic and spread awareness about cleanliness and responsible waste management in their respective villages and communities.
Further, the Deputy Commissioner appreciated the contribution and sincere efforts of the Departments of Information, Public Health Engineering, Public Works, Power Department, and Youth Services & Sports and other concerned departments and stakeholders for making conducting the tournament in a professional and smooth manner.
The ceremony concluded with the distribution of prizes and encouragement to the participating players, bringing the National Sports Day 2026 – Youth Engagement Month celebrations in Drass to a successful conclusion with a strong message of sportsmanship, youth empowerment, cleanliness and a Drug-Free Ladakh.
