IUST installs Rotary Peace Pole to propagate message of harmony

Awantipora, September 22 (KIP)-The Islamic University of Science and Technology (IUST) installed a Rotary Peace Pole on its campus on Monday, reaffirming its commitment to promoting peace, harmony, mutual understanding and a culture of dialogue among the university community.
The Peace Pole was unveiled by Prof. Shakil Ahmad Romshoo, Vice Chancellor, IUST, in the presence of Prof. Shamim Ahmad Shah, Registrar; Prof. Sheikh Ajaz Bashir, Dean Academic Affairs; Prof. Parvez Ahmad Mir, Dean, School of Business Studies and Director, CIED; Mr. Sameer Wazir, Finance Officer; Dr. Ruheela Hassan, Dean Outreach; Dr. Touseef, President, Rotary Club of Kashmir; Dr. Amit Wanchoo, Dr. Basharat Ahmed and other members of the Rotary Club, besides faculty members and university officials.
Speaking on the occasion, Prof. Romshoo appreciated the Rotary Club of Kashmir for its efforts in promoting the message of peace and for taking up the initiative at IUST. He observed that educational institutions have an important role in nurturing values of peace, tolerance, empathy and mutual respect among young people. He said that the installation of the Peace Pole at IUST carries a meaningful message for the university community and reflects the shared responsibility of institutions and society to foster an environment based on understanding, cooperation and peaceful coexistence.
The programme was coordinated by Sameer Wazir, Finance Officer, IUST, who also highlighted the rationale behind having a Rotaract Club at IUST, a student-led initiative providing young minds with a platform to develop leadership, teamwork, and a spirit of community service.
Dr. Touseef appreciated IUST for facilitating the initiative and expressed the Club’s commitment to undertaking programmes that contribute to community engagement and social responsibility. Dr. Amit Wanchoo, Rotarian, also addressed the gathering and spoke about the significance of the Peace Pole and the values it represents.
