Draw of Lots Held for Reservation of Women in LAHDC Seats in Kargil District

Kargil,November 06 (KIP)-A draw of lots for the reservation of women for the upcoming LAHDC Kargil elections was held today at the Conference Hall, Baroo, in the presence of political party representatives and villages representatives.
The programme was attended by Deputy Commissioner and Chief Executive Officer (CEO), LAHDC Kargil, Rakesh Kumar, IAS; Headquarter Assistant, Kaneez Fatima (APEO); Election Officer Zakir Hussain; representatives of various political parties and representatives from different villages of the district.
During the programme, Deputy Commissioner Rakesh Kumar briefed the participants about the complete procedure and guidelines governing the reservation of constituencies for women. He explained the legal provisions and procedural aspects of the reservation process to ensure transparency and fairness.
The DC informed that following the completion of the delimitation exercise on November 5, the district has a total of 21 constituencies for the upcoming LAHDC Kargil elections. He also highlighted the relevant provisions under Section 3 of the LAHDC Act concerning the reservation of seats for women.
As per the prescribed procedure, out of the total 21 constituencies, seven constituencies have been reserved for women through the draw-of-lots process. The exercise was conducted in the presence of representatives of political parties and other stakeholders to maintain transparency and ensure their participation in the process.
The DC stressed the need to ensure a transparent and fair reservation process in accordance with legal provisions, promoting women's representation.
